Our long awaited return to the Valley Isle, after skipping our annual visit for the first time since ’06. But it was all for a good reason – to start our own ‘ohana!
As with our previous trip, this one was also for the 3rd Annual Maui Photo Festival and Workshops, held once again at the Hyatt in Ka’anapali.
But it was also special because it was our first visit as a family, with our then 8 1/2 month old son accompanying us.

As with our last trip in Sept. '09, our trip was half pleasure, half business with the photography workshops and all. We still had time to take my mom and our son around the island, but not nearly as much as we would have liked.
- Haleakala Sunrise
- Stargazing
- Historic Lahaina Town
- Doors-Off Helicopter Ride
Beaches
With only a few days to ourselves, our beach time was pretty limited. We made it count, though, by hitting up a beach along the north shore that we hadn't visited yet.
- Ka'anapali Beach
- Kamaole Beach Park III
Restaurants
We didn't venture too far from our familiar habits this trip when it came time to eat.
- Aloha Mixed Plate
- Cheeseburger in Paradise
- Da Kitchen - Kihei
- Lahaina Pizza Kitchen
- Leilani's
- Lulu's Lahaina
Shopping
We made sure we took advantage of the free time we did have to get a little shopping done. With our young son on his first Maui trip, we had to make sure he came home with some neat stuff.

- Whalers Village
- Shops at Wailea
- 808 Clothing Company - Kihei
