Future Plans

We already know that this isn't a better place we want to vacation that Maui. Below is a short list of future trips we're thinking about, and eventually even spending some time calling Maui home!

Future Planning

Shooting on top of the world

September 2009
When two weeks aren't enough, why not a third, right? We had so much we wanted to do last February, that we ultimately ran out of time to see everything we wanted to see, do everything we wanted to do, well ... you get the idea. Then, in comes the Maui Photo Festival and Workshops right out of the blue. 4 full days of learning and shooting with professional photographers on the most beautiful island in the world, a super low rate at the Hyatt Maui Regency, and the chance to extend it out 3 more days!

Just too great to pass up, so it looks like we'll be spending another one of our anniversaries out in paradise this year.

Whale Fluke

February 2010
Seeing the whales in February this year was absolutley amazing. Even though our ultimate goal is to spend an entire month on Maui this year during the summer months, we're throwing in a week trip just as something to shoot for. You never know, opting for a nice condo rental in Kihei rather than splurging for those amazing oceanfront views at the Sheraton in Ka'anapali could just make this winter getaway are reality. We'll have to wait and see.

Aside from relocating to the Valley Isle, this whale watching vacation could turn into a little bit of a tradition for us every year.

Maluaka Beach

August 2010
After doubling up our trips in '09 and trying to sneak in a week in February, we're looking at more of an extended stay. This trip could be as long as a month, and would be a combination of a 2 weeks of vacation and 2 weeks of telecommuting. My current employer already has a good telecommuting policy and I have tentative buy-in from my boss for this idea, so I think it would be very possible.

We would likely shoot for this trip in August, too, to celebrate Cindy's birthday on Maui. Part of the 10 Things we still want to do on Maui. After all, we got to celebrate my birthday back in 2008 with a little whale watching and some Hula Pie for birthday cake, so it's only fair we do the same for Cindy, right?

2011
Depending on how things go with a possible month in Maui in 2010, the next step could be even longer. 3 months? 6 months? A year? Rent or own? We'll have to see.

Telecommuting from Maui
I mentioned above that my current employer has a very nice telecommuting policy. It's all part of the beauty of working in the technology field and being able to connect to the office from anywhere. In fact, with the time difference, I would be working 5am - 2pm Hawaii time and we would still have almost the entire afternoon and be able to share in every Maui sunset!

Getting a second job or doing freelance work on Maui could also be part of those plans, seeing that my entire afternoons would be open. Who knows, with all the practice I've been getting with my photography and having such an amazing paradise to take photos in, maybe my career path splits into two. It would certainly help with the cost of living on the Valley Isle, that's for sure.
