Overview
An outdoor mall with nice stores, great restaurants, spectacular sunset views, and all steps from the beach? Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it.
Well, it's not. Whalers Village is truly a shoppers paradise, and if you're staying in the Ka'anapali Resort area, you'll find it hard to stay away during your visit. Although it features just a small food court compared to other shopping centers, Whalers Village has some great dining options including Leilani's and Hula Grill. For shopping options, you have a range from high end shops like Tiffany's and Louis Vitton to more fun and everyday shops like Crazy T-Shirts and the popular ABC Store.
Directly accessible from the Ka'anapali Beachwalk, it's literally steps from the beach and within walking distance from all the resorts between the Sheraton at the north end of Ka'anapali Beach to the Hyatt at the south. A great way to get your exercise and enjoy the fresh air while on vacation and by walking, you can save all the hassles with parking in the area.
There is also free museum right inside the mall, which is open daily. The Whalers Village Museum takes you back to an older time when whaling was a major industry in the Hawaiian islands during the early 1800's.
Notes
We're not kidding when we say we're at Whalers at least once a day, unless we're off beach hopping elsewhere. One of the biggest draws for us is having the ABC Store right nearby, to grab a pair of 1.5L bottles of water for the day or stock up on some more sunscreen. The other regular shop we visit is Haagan Dazs ice cream, because you have to treat yourself when you're on vacation, right?
The stores at Whalers Village are truly a wide range. It's sort of odd to see so many high-end stores like Tiffany's, Louis Vitton, and others side-by-side to other stores for things like one hour photo, coffee stands, and T-Shirts. But I guess if there wasn't a market, those stores wouldn't be there. Afterall, Ka'anapali is one of the higher end resorts on Maui, if not the whole island chain, so I guess it fits.
Whether you or your significant other is looking for a little something special to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or even just to commemorate your vacation, there are is at least one jewelry option to fit your taste and budget. In addition to the previously mentioned Tiffany's, there are the two Hawaii mainstays Na Hoku and Maui Divers across from each other, as well as a few of those Pearl Factory stands where you get to crack open an oyster yourself and match it to a setting of your liking. There is also a smaller toe ring boutique stand out front of the Rusty Harpoon that picks up more than a few customers waiting for a seat at the nearby restaurants.
Speaking of restaurants, Whalers has three main dining options right near the west end of the mall. They are the Rusty Harpoon, Hula Grill, and Leilani's. They are all great places for dinner, and come 6 o'clock, there are lines for each of them. Looking for something lighter or a quick bite for lunch, the food court has a few cheap eats. We go there when Cindy has a taste for sweet and sour pork, and Nikki's has the best Hawaiian pizza that I've been able to find on Maui (and I'm always looking).
