Overview
Although the Lahaina Cannery is an indoor mall and isn't near the water like Front Street or Whalers Village, we still find ourselves stopping there more than a few times a week. It's just down the street on Hwy 30 from the Ka'anapali Resort area, and features a good place to stock up on groceries at Safeway, and also has the closest Starbucks to Ka'anapali.
There are a few good, local clothing stores in the Cannery, which offers a nice selection if you're looking for some Aloha wear for a luau or for folks back home. The food court also has a fair variety of menu items if you're looking for something quick for lunch and want to get out of the sun for awhile. And if you're traveling with kids that always have their nose in one of those portable video games, there's a Gamestop inside to keep them from driving each other (or you) crazy.
Notes
The Cannery is actually one of our first stops on Maui when we visit. Staying for two weeks, we like to stock up on some snacks, produce, and a few essentials at Safeway early in the first week. The prices aren't that great, as you'd expect, so don't be afraid to bring along some coupons from home. Safeway is a national chain which operates stores under different names throughout the country. If you have one of those club discount cards, bring it along.
For those of you that need to have your regular dose of Starbucks, the Cannery has your fix, although you now have another option since the Barnes and Noble opened up at the Lahaina Gateway Mall across the street.
Lastly, you'll also see and hear about the free Hula Shows at the Cannery, which is a nice event take in if you're in the area. You can find out more details on the Cannery's website on the Hula Show page.
