Rusty Harpoon, also referred to as The Daiquiri Capital of the World on their website, is the third restaurant and the west end of Whalers Village. It is one of the few restaurants in the area, outside of the Ka'anapali resorts themselves, that offer breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. In addition, they pride themselves on having one of the best (four hour) happy hours on Maui and being a great place for watching live sports.
We're not exactly use if the sports bar with a great sunset view concept is really a winning combination for us personally, but it seems to attract a pretty good crowd every night. It's fun to see, though, come the weekend in late summer and in the fall where Rusty seems to become an all day, non-stop college football gallery.
With the timezone difference with the mainland, a 2pm happy hour start time gets you right at the first whistle of your favorite games in prime time. It seems to be a pretty nice place, too, if you're home team or alma mater has a big game and checking scores on your cell phone just isn't cutting it.
We'll likely give it another shot on one of our next trips. It wasn't one of the memorable moments we've had to this point, but just because it's not our cup of tea doesn't mean it's not a match for you.
