Aloha Mixed Plate is one of those low key places that many area locals go to for lunch, and if it's good with the locals, it's good for us, too. In actuality, it's a real bargain, too, and is one of the best places to find really good food without spending a lot of money. And to top it off, they have a little section for tables close to the water. What a combination!
While technically located on Front Street in Lahaina, it's actually a ways north, right behind the Lahaina Cannery Mall. Being that separate from all the other areas in Lahaina means AMP is lesser known among visitors, yet still popular with those in the know.
Notes
Aloha Mixed Plate was a great find for lunch, and was a great filler between a light lunch and a hearty dinner out on the town. The term "mixed plate" refers to a Hawaiian meal with different meats, veggies, and sides all on the same plate, much like you'd prepare at a luau or any other buffet style event. Somewhat like the fast food variety, you just pick from the menu options or customize your own plate. Yet it's not mall food, it's an open air, sit down place with full service and everything.
We actually skipped breakfast the day we stopped here for lunch. We were early, and I don't think all the help had arrived yet. The waitress we had was bouncing between tables like a ping pong ball, yet was still very friendly. After all, we were on vacation and in no real hurry (also known as Hawaii Time), so we didn't mind the delays. It's a smaller place, and I already mentioned our server was very nice. The staff is so personal, they even have their profiles posted on the AMP website.
The pricing here was great, and the menu choices were even better. Everything from sandwiches, seafood, steak, chicken, BBQ, you name it. They also have pupus (appetizers) and salads as well, for lighter diners. Their menu also have a nice little history of the mixed plate tradition, so be sure to check it out if you haven't heard of it before (it's in the PDF version on their site).
The only really downside of this place that we found was the lack of parking. We had an early lunch, so it wasn't too bad, but as we walked back to the car after our meal, other cars were already waiting for spots to open up.
