Saturday Summary
Saturday was the day before our trip officially began, but there always are a few trip related items that go on before that long travel day to Maui. There's the obvious packing that needs to happen, as packing for a two week trip isn't something you can necessarily put off until the morning you leave.
This trip, we brought along my mother with us, which was special. What that meant, however, was that we had to make other arrangements for our rabbits because she was the designated bunny-sitter on our previous trips. This had to be done Saturday night as well.
Itinerary - Saturday, April 12th
- United Airlines online check-in and upgrade
- Drop off rabbits at my brother's
- Finish packing
- Get a good night's sleep

Printing our boarding passes. Yay!
We've been flying United for our most recent trips, and one of the things we check 24 hours before we leave is the availability of Economy Plus. The extra space certainly does help on the long flights. As part of the process, we do the online check-in, print out boarding passes and we're ready to go.
Its a little surprising to me that some people don't use the online check-in these days. Almost every trip we see people anxiously waiting at the check-in counter at the gate because they don't have a seat assignment and the airline oversold the flight. I can only assume that they didn't check-in online early enough to get a seat assignment ahead of time.
This is also where the start of our trip really starts to sink in.

Dropping our rabbits off with my brothers while we're away *gulp*
We were probably a little more nervous that we should have been about leaving our two rabbits at my brother's place. He's always been good with animals, and in the end, had no trouble at all.
9:39 PM CST
Finishing the rest of our packing
This is always a chore, trying to back for our trip and making sure our bags are under 50 lbs. For Cindy, it's not that bad because she packs a lot of tank top, shorts and skirts that don't take up much space. Me, on the other hand, have all my techie toys to bring with, and agonize as to what goes in my carry-on bag and what risks getting lost or misdirected in my checked bag.
This trip, my toys included my Dell laptop, my Sony Handycam, my Canon EOS 20D with three lenses, and my new pair of Celestron binoculars. There were also about a half dozen smaller toys such as my GPS recorder, my iPod and speakers, things like that.
10:59 PM CST
Updating my website with the new Maui Twitter page, http://www.kaanapalidreamin.com/twitter.php
This was something brand new for this trip, and you're actually reading the results of it. I was posting updates to Twitter from my phone throughout the trip (except for Hana when I had no signal) and had them updated here on the website. Now that the trip is over, I'm using all though updates to showcase our activities in the Itineraries section (aka this page).
11:13 PM CST
Finishing my Ocean Vodka and lemonade and then going to bed. Long travel day tomorrow.
I don't normally drink too much before an early and long day of travel, but it's been a long seven months since our last trip and I thought a small toast was in order.
