Ho’okipa Beach
Ho’okipa Beach along Maui’s North Shore, just before the road to Hana begins.

This week’s Sunday Photo comes from Maui’s North Shore and is an image of the popular windsurfing spot, Ho’okipa Beach.

Depending on your itinerary for a trip to Hana, this might be one of your first stops on the way there, or it could be one of the last stops on the way back.

Of course, if you’re a kite surfer or spending the day in Paia or Makawao, you don’t need the road to Hana as an excuse to stop by.

Bonus Photo

As I mentioned the road to Hana, this image is also featured in the Road to Hana edition in my Maui by Poster eBook series.

View eBook Details

So, because it’s featured in the eBook, I thought I’d use the eBook version of the image as today’s Bonus Image.

Be sure to let me know which one you like better.

Past Editions on Facebook

Last week, I started putting the previous Sunday Photo images into a new album on my Facebook page.

I still have to go back and get caught up on the older posts, but if you’d like another way to follow along with this series, check out the Sunday Photos Album on Facebook.

Sunset Scene
A gorgeous Maui sunset featuring palm tree silhouettes and a dinner cruise ship out on the water at that special moment.

This week’s Sunday Photo is one of the last sunsets we saw on Maui, back from our August ’11 trip for the Maui Photo Festival.

It’s not uncommon to see great sunset scenes like this on a visit to Maui. When you look at this view, it seems like it has just about everything:

Clouds and sun rays…check,

Palm tree silhouttes…check,

Dinner cruise ship out on the water…check.

The only thing this image didn’t capture was the sounds from the Drums of the Pacific Luau that was taking place nearby as I took this shot.

Oh, the memories…

Bonus Maui Sunset

I’ve been in a sunset kinda mood today since I just added 7 new (and free) wallpaper images to the Maui Wall Candy App, one of which was the image below:

This sunset image was already featured in the Sunday Photos series back in June ’09, so take a look there if you’d like to learn more about this one, too.

Mahalo, and have a great week ahead,
– Kris

Heavenly Hana
A serene look at a cottage in Hana with Haleakala in the distance.

This week’s Sunday Photo comes from our stay in Hana back in 2009. You may have heard the term Heavenly Hana used before, and often times it’s associated with swimming in natural pools under towering waterfalls or gorgeous sunrises.

As with beauty, I suppose the term heavenly can also rest with the beholder.

Our Heaven in Hana

Our ’09 visit to Hana included an overnight stay at what was then called Hotel Hana-Maui.

If your heart is open, there’s just something magical about being in Hana town itself. But being able to stay in a cottage facing the ocean with no clocks, TV’s, or other gadgets (except for your own) really takes over your soul.

If we could have only stayed longer.

About the Photo

I shot this image the morning after our night in Hana, while I was walking back to our cottage after attempting to shoot the sunrise (which was cloudy, as usual).

I love how this image captures the simplicity of life in Hana, and although there are many cottages at this resort, this view lets you feel like you’re the only ones on the island.

And with Haleakala towering over you in the distance, you get a nice reminder that you’re separated from the rest of the island.

I could go on and on, but I’ll let you close your eyes and remember your own memories of Hana, and we’ll leave it at that.

Mahalo,
– Kris

Ocean Views
The ocean views seen along the road to Hana are breathtaking to say the least.

As with last week’s photo, I’m bringing you another one of my favorites from my new road to Hana eBook as this week’s Sunday Photo.

The photo used to create the image above was taken during our overnight trip to Hana back in 2009. If it looks a little familiar, the cliffs in the very background of the photo is of the popular Honomanu Bay, which is one of the photo ops many of the tour companies stop at (at least the two we took did).

Our trip in 2009 was the one we drove to Hana ourselves, so I was able to choose my own spots instead of waiting for the tour bus to stop.

About the eBook

If you didn’t see the details in last week’s post, my latest Maui by Poster eBook was released earlier this month, and features over 60+ images of the road to Hana just like this one.

It’s a free PDF download for your computer, tablet, or smartphone, so if you’d like to relive your own memories of Hana, download your copy today.

About the eBook

You can read the release announcement for the new Road to Hana eBook here and find the download options below.

The new eBook features 60+ styled images from along the road to Hana, created from photographs I’ve taken during our three trips to Hana in years past.

While there are many other guides out there for experiencing the road to Hana, this is not a guidebook.

The goal is to help reconnect you with your own personal memories of your time spent on your own Hana journey, and maybe even inspire you to return again someday.

It’s certainly been a busy week for my various Maui projects, but before I get into that, there are a few folks I wanted to pass along a Big Mahalo to first.

Mahalo!

My newest Maui App launched Wednesday, and I was very excited to see the reception it received as it made it’s way into people’s social media news feeds.

I’d like to send a Mahalo to everyone that liked, shared, or tweeted my launch announcement, and give an extra shout-out to these ladies for their tweets.

Maui Wall Candy App Announcement

As I mentioned above, my new Maui Wall Candy App was officially released to the App Store this week, so if you or someone you know would like a little Aloha on their iPhone or iPad, please give it a look.

Other Updates

I did mention it was a busy week, so here are a few other updates I shared this week as well:

I added Twitter Card support to the @DailyMauiPhoto Twitter feed to display photos directly in Twitter without clicking to the full site (see example).

Phew, that about covers it for this week.

Thanks again for everyone that helped spread the Aloha around my new App this week, and for proving again that the Aloha Spirit is just as much alive in the online world as it is on the islands themselves.

Until next time,
– Kris

Aloha, back with another Sunday Photo to bring some Maui magic to the beginning of your week.

This week’s photo comes from our visit to Kama’ole Beach Park III in Kihei. As I walked the sands of Kam III looking for photo ops, I found this lonely flower budding in the lush green leaves.

Framing it with the West Maui Mountains in the background, it was one of my favorite shots from the beach trip.
