New eBook – Maui by Poster 02

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

It may have taken a little longer than anticipated, but the 2nd installment in the Maui by Poster eBook Series is finally here!

The new Above Maui Edition eBook features some of my favorite aerial shots when touring over the island of Maui by helicopter. No doubt, a helicopter tour is one of the most expensive excursions on the island of Maui, but by sharing the images in this eBook, I hope to bring that experience and the amazing views to those that might not otherwise get to see them in person.

And who knows, I may end up inspiring a few readers to book a flight and see why I love these aerial shoots.

Grab a Copy

Just like the first edition, this eBook is absolutely free!

Head over to the Maui by Poster eBook page at the Daily Maui Photo website where you see previews from both editions in the series to date, as well as download PDF versions for either your mobile device, tablet, or your computer.

Aloha on Your Wall

And also like the first edition, you can also order prints of your favorite images from this eBook as well.

Visit the Maui Posters page to learn about how easy it is for you to Put Some Aloha On Your Wall.

Share the Aloha

Lastly, help spread the Aloha by sharing the eBook download page with your friends and fans online, via Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and any other of your favorites. Our Maui by Photo Facebook page is also a nice and easy way to share with your friends, too.

So, fasten your seat belts, and prepare for take-off…

Enjoy!

365 Nights of #MauiSunsets in 2011?

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

Sky CandyCould you imagine what it would be like if you could rewind the clock and view every single Maui sunset in 2011?

Well, you’re already halfway there!

#MauiSunset Project Update

Earlier this year, I posted about the #MauiSunset project I started as part of the Daily Maui Photo website.

The concept is simply to have Maui fans on Flickr submit their Maui sunset photos to the #MauiSunset Flickr Group, and then we could all use this link to view them listed by year, month, and day.

As of this post, we already have Maui sunsets from 185 nights for the calendar year 2011. That’s already half of the entire year!

You Can Help

185 nights for 2011 is great, but wouldn’t 365 be awesome?

If you visited Maui in 2011 (or any previous year) and have sunset photos you’d like to submit to the Flickr Group, we’d love to see them.

You can also help my sharing this post or any of the links mentioned here in your own favorite social networks and get the word out so we can try to reach that 365 total for 2011.

Maui Anniversary

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Five years ago today, our lives changed for ever. It was the first day of our very first Maui trip, and after witnessing views like the one below, our lives were never the same.

View of Lanai

That’s why, on this day, I was happy to feature my first Maui photo as the Daily Maui Photo today. And that’s also why we’re excited to be going back in three months.

Life Changing, Really?

Yes, really. It may sound over dramatic, but if we think of how much of our lives have been shaped by that first Maui visit, it’s actually pretty true. I could seriously go on and on, but here’s a short list.

  • I bought my first DSLR camera to take photos during that first trip. While I was just starting, it turned into a larger hobby than I had imagined. Now, I have 3 DSLR camera bodies, a half-dozen lenses, and a bagful of other gadgets to play with.
  • While preparing for our second Maui trip in ’07, I created the Ka’anapali Dreamin’ website and blog as part of a website design course I was taking at the time. Now, almost 350 posts and 4 years strong, it’s one of my largest websites in terms of content and even traffic.
  • Our 3rd Maui trip was in ’08, and for that trip, I dabbled around with a Maui Twitter experiment and shared updates from Maui live view my primary Twitter account at the time. Now I operate two other Twitter handles as well: @MauiByPhoto and @DailyMauiPhoto.
  • In that same ’08 trip, we brought my mom along to celebrate her 50th birthday earlier in the year. What better gift could you give your mom for her 50th birthday than a trip to Maui?
  • The following year, we attended our first #MauiTweetup and met in person some of the great Maui pals I had been tweeting with for the previous year or so. We had another meet up that trip, and later that year, we met with an even larger crowd. Without Maui and Twitter, these are friends we would have never met otherwise.
  • Skip ahead a few other items, and come to this last December when our first child was born. We even chose to give him a Hawaiian middle name. :)

So yeah, one could say life would have been a little different had we’d not taken that first trip to Maui. Not a day goes by where we’re not looking at photos of Maui, talking story with friends online, wearing jewelry from Maui, well, you get the idea.

So much has happened in the five years since that first day we spent on Maui, and who knows where we’ll be five years from now. We know where we want to be, that’s for sure. ;)

Talk Story

#MauiSunset Catalogue – Beta

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

Maui SunsetAloha Maui sunset fans!

In a post last month, I mentioned a little project I was starting with the #MauiSunset Flickr Group. Well, about two weeks ago I kicked off a beta version of the #MauiSunset Catalogue over at the Daily Maui Photo website. This new page allows you to click back in time and view sunset photos from earlier this year, and years past.

It’s still an early beta, as there are many, many other features I’m looking to add this summer. The navigation is simple to use, but I’d still like to enhance it a little bit in the coming months, too. But for now, I think it does a pretty decent job of achieving the simple goal of showing Maui sunsets day by day, er, rather night by night. ;)

The Numbers So Far

At the start of this week, we’ve already collected over 100 photos and 23 members in our #MauiSunset Flickr Group, which isn’t bad for just about 8 weeks time. As part of those photos, we have 46 photos from this past March, and 15 photos already for April. If you’d like to help out, even if you have photos from previous years, take a look at this post and scroll about 1/3 down for the details.

As with everything else, if you have any suggestions or comments, please let me know.

New eBook – Maui by Poster

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Aloha, I hope you all had a nice weekend.

If you’re looking to get back into a nice Maui headspace while starting another workweek, why not check out the recently released Maui by Poster eBook.

Officially released last Friday, this eBook features 24 of my Maui images transformed into a series of posters that I created on the iPad. You can view a few sample images on the download page, and I also plan to feature them with a few posts here on the Ka’anapali Dreamin’ blog.

It is my first eBook, and I have ideas a for a few more. That said, if you have any feedback, suggestions, or run into any problems viewing the eBook, please let me know so I can help resolve those in the future.

Mahalo, and enjoy,
– Kris
