Sunday Photos

West Maui Ocean Vista

Taken by Kris Nelson on February 19th, 2009.
Location: Our lanai at the Sheraton Maui Resort, Ka’anapali, Maui

A sampling of the morning views we used to enjoy when staying at the ocean front rooms at the Sheraton Maui Resort in Ka’anapali. Sure, we paid a premium for those rooms, and all budget-minded travelers will say that you can save a ton of money on cheaper rooms that you’re not really going to spend that much time in anyway. And they’re right.

Still, for two weeks out of the year, being able to wake up and walk out on your balcony and see views like this…

I like to think it was worth it.

Hey Kris, hope all is well. No posts for a while. Planning any trips to Maui. We are heading to the Big Island in three weeks.

    Aloha Bob,

Things are busy, but for the most part going well. Our original plans after last year’s Maui Photo Festival was to make it back for the second event in August. Somewhere around the holidays, my wife and I started talking about a family, and before you know it, we’re expecting our first child in December!

I’m thinking a trip to Maui would make a nice birthday present for a 3 year old, so we’ll probably be enjoying the islands vicariously through folks like you, but I’m sure we’ll manage to get back.

    Enjoy the Big Island!

Outstanding, keep posting, Maui will await you. FWIW, our daughter spent two weeks at 5 months of age. :-)

  4. Kris Says:

5 months, eh? How well did that go? Our biggest concerns are having “that baby” on the long 9 hour flight from Chicago that won’t stop crying, or having to lug around a stroller and a diaper bag everywhere we go. I figured 3 years old might be a good enough age to get passed most of that, but we’ll see if we can really wait that long ;)

    Aloha Kris,

I agree with you. You should be able to splurge at least a couple of weeks a year. The quality of the rooms, the views & the amenities make it all worth it. Makes you wonder what it would be like if you could live like that all the time, LOL! The next time you’re coming to town call us — Maui Fun Company. We offer Maui activities like Maui luaus, Maui Snorkeling, Maui Zipline & Maui Helicopter Tours.

    Aloha Kris,

First, congrats on your new addition. And I concur, nobody wants to be THAT parent with screaming baby on a long flight. Eventually you’ll have to make the trip and show your son/daughter what Maui has to offer. I actually moved to Maui from NYC because we were expecting our first baby. Nevertheless, Maui will be here for you and your family, awaiting your return. Best wishes.

  7. Kris Says:

Mahalo Alex. The thought did cross our minds about moving to Maui first before starting a family, but not everything fell into place and we didn’t want to wait too much longer.

The current goal is to make it back in August for the Maui Photo Festival again (missed it this year) and then we start getting back to the relocation plans. My personal goal would be to make the move prior to him starting kindergarten so we’re not taking him away after he starts in a school system, but one baby step at a time ;)
