Location: Kama’ole Beach Park II, Kihei
Sure, you see these palm trees and blue sky photos all over the place from postcards to guide books and travel brochures. But for whatever reason, I still like capturing them all over the island, from practically every beach we’ve visited over the years.
This one was taken on our beach hopping day last February, at our first stop that afternoon. Kama’ole Beach Park II is one of three beach parks that together make up Kama’ole Beach. Numbered I, II, and III, we visited Kama’ole Beach Park I last year, and had just as perfect weather as we did this time around.
Beach Park III is still further south of where we stopped this time, and of the three, it is the most popular with the locals. Not only does it have a nice stretch of sand like the other two, it has a large lawn and park area, volleyball nets, and a picnic/pavilion area ideal for large group gatherings.
It wasn’t until last year’s trip did we really start venturing down towards South Maui to go beach hopping. Since then, it has become a favorite place to go hunting for new beaches to visit, which as you know is one of our travel traditions each year.
Talk Story
Is any of your favorite beaches in South Maui? I still have some work to do in updating our Beaches section here on the site, but until then, feel free to share your favorite South Maui beaches with us.
Mahalo.

Hey Kris, off topic post. There is a website that allows you to create your own radio station. I’ve tuned mine to Hapa and it brings up their songs and related artists. You can deselect any sng or artist you do not want and mot important, it is free. http://WWW.pandora.com
Hope all is well
The Kamaloe Beaches are some of favorites (I, II and III)
We also like Keawakapu and Charlie Young
Makena is good too.
I know there’s a trend here … these are all in the South Maui area
hey, that where we live
aloha, my favorite beach on south maui is Keawekapu. Back in the early nineties, i had a friend who rented a beach home there. We were at the beach a lot. The house she rented has been torn down and it is now that big pink looking monstrosity that lays in that once beautiful property. (barely any lawn on it now). Although the tiny cottage is still there. When my friend comes to visit she only stays on Dick Donners beach house.(he’s a film director) it is the one with the thatched hut mailbox, so i always love going to Keawekapu beach. the water is easy to swim and you can walk to the mana kai. Kris can i say this sparked a memory of having very fun and wild parties on Keawekapu beach. like when the Planet Hollywood opened in Lahaina and my girlfriend insisted that you don’t go to a Planet Hollywood opening unless you go in a limousine. So we rode from Keawekapu beach to Front Street and it was my first time in a limo. All the hollywood stars were there and Moet champange was the drink to have. The next day Shep Gordon had all the stars come to his place on Keawekapu beach and party. We were there ! it was a blast. partying with all kines of famous hollywood people.
my second choice is makena big beach. i think in a former life i seen myself living on that beach like the hippies did back in the seventies. open and free, sun and waves!!. okay thanks for letting me let you know what my favorite south maui beach is!
happy may day to ya!
@robert, quite a number of folks at the office use Pandora, but I’ve been partial to my iPod still. I did look into their mobile version, but it’s not supported on my phone yet (bummer). I might have to check it out again now that you’ve mentioned they have Hawaii mele on there, too.
@Liza, I could certainly see having a ton of fun at a luau or big group picnic at Kamaloe III. Kinda regret not visiting South Maui that much until last year, just about all the beaches down there are awesome. You guys certainly picked a great spot to call home.
@jalove, we likely wouldn’t have discovered Keawekapu had our portrait photographer, Natalie Brown hadn’t suggested it for our photo session. It easily makes it up to the top of my list.
BTW, I love hearing about all the stories you have from living on the island. I wish I was back there talking story with you guys for hours and hours!
