We had an amazing time driving to Hana this year. Our past two visits along the windy road was with a tour group, so while we learned so much from the tour guides, many of our photo opportunities were rushed.
Since we made the drive this time, and stayed in Hana overnight, we literally had all day to enjoy the sights and stops along the way. In particular, we saved quite a bit of time for hiking up to lesser known waterfalls and actually having time to take more than just 2-3 pictures of them each.
This week’s Sunday Photo showcases one of the results of having that extra time to ourselves. It’s of Hanawi Falls, about 10 miles before Hana. Compare that to the one from last year when I had all of 90 seconds to shoot before getting back on the bus.
As you can see, quite a difference. It’s worth mentioning that it was raining pretty hard last year when I took this photo (you can see it in the black part of the cave in the bigger version), and I’ve also had a ton more practice in the past year, too.
Touching on that last point about having a lot more practice between this and our last trip, I’m still going through the volumes of photos I’ve taken this trip, and have been pretty happy with the results. It looks like we’re going to be having some really nice Sunday Photos in our series for the rest of this year!
Mahalo.

Aloha Kris,
What impressive Hawaii waterfall photos from your trip to Hana. That should be a nice encentive for Maui visitors to take the adventure along windy Hana road. Good idea to spend the night in Hana as well.
Aloha, Pua

Aloha Pua,
Mahalo for the comments on the photos. Spending the night in Hana was absolutely amazing, and I’m still working to get caught up here with all the details of our stay there.
Mahalo also for the addition to the Hawaii Resources and Blogs at Best Hawaii Vacation Blog. I’ve been subscribing to your RSS feed for awhile now, and am planning to feature it in our Weekly Website series once I get back to the normal day-to-day blogging here. Be sure to look for that in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I added your blog to our Recommend Blogs list on blog home page as well.
Mahalo and Aloha,
Kris.
