I’ve been following some pretty cool people from Hawaii on Twitter for most of last year, and as part of tracking different New Years Eve celebrations on the islands, @NathanKam made the suggestion of using the hashtag #aloha09 on Twitter. Not only was it a great way to see what everyone was doing on NYE, it became something bigger…
@VBrown, who operates 808talk.com, liked Nathan’s idea and wanted to continue it passed the strike of midnight. So he created the Aloha 2009 project as a way for people all over the world to help share the Aloha Spirit of Hawaii. It is a collaboration across the web using sites like Twitter, Flickr, and others to showcase to the world what the Aloha Spirit is all about. Seeing that the sole purpose of our own site is “Sharing the Magic of Maui,” we felt joining the project was right up our alley.
So for all of our posts here in 2009 that relate to the Aloha Spirit of Maui, or Hawaii in general, will be tagged with aloha09, and you can find other blogs across the web doing the same with the Technorati aloha09 tag. Also, photos from our upcoming February trip to Maui that capture the essence of Aloha will also be tagged on Flickr. And last, but not least, I plan on using the hashtag #aloha09 whenever I talk story about Maui on Twitter. If you hadn’t seen it mentioned previously, you can find me on Twitter as @webnelly.
Mahalo nui loa to @NathanKam and @VBrown for starting such a great project, and we look forward to seeing so many great contributions from around the web.

Thanks for the info on Aloha09 – somehow I missed that on Twitter.
You exude so much aloha, you fit right in.
I’d there there now and check it out.
Mahalo for joining in on the Aloha09 project! We look forward to see this viral spread of Aloha throughout the web and around the world!

Thank you both for taking the time to comment here.
I’m really excited about this project and have a feeling 2009 is going to be a very good year for Aloha!
